Taxes??

Regardless of who you voted for, I can't understand why our President makes some of his choices.  The Secretary of the Treasury made a mistake and forgot to pay his taxes.  Now Tom Daschle has made a mistake and is wholeheartedly supported by our President.   According to Andrea Mitchell's report on the news this morning Daschle was extraordinarily helpful to President Obama in getting the widespread support he received in the beginning of his campaign.  I can't believe that President Obama is supporting Daschle as payback but I don't know why else he would not at least table the nomination or withdraw the nomination.

Many, many years ago when my late husband and I were just starting out, our tax return was chosen by the IRS to be audited.  Apparently they took a small sample of returns every year to audit to determine how well they were doing their job, did we fill out the forms correctly did they catch any mistakes, etc.  They went over everything with a fine-tooth comb.  We had to show documentation for every line on the form.  All of our charity deductions were scrutinized.  My husband had contributed to a little known charity he was involved with in college and we to show that, yes, it really was a tax exempt organization.  (This was before George Castanza gave contributions to the Human Fund on Seinfeld).  We passed just fine but it was extremely intimidating and very time consuming.  Apparently many of our elected and appointed officials do not feel this same intimidation since they know they can just say sorry and get a pass.  Perhaps there might be a cabinet position for George in the Obama administration ... something to do with architecture????
