Sleep

I am a person who requires sleep.  I'd love 9 hours but that isn't happening.  So now I would settle for 6 uninterrupted hours.  I remember thinking how wonderful it would be to get sleep when my children were babies but I knew going in that sleep would be elusive.  After they got into their toddler years I got that sleep (thanks to a great routine and helpful husband).  They slept  10 hours a night.  Of course we would have what seemed like weeks of an illness sweep through the family but we were always able to get back into our sleep routines.

Now that I have teenagers I am once again not getting enough sleep.  Last night I heard cars around 11pm and knew son was home from water polo practice.  Great, I can get 7 hours of sleep.  But he doesn't come in, they all get in one car and leave.  I get a text they are going to get something to eat.    Ten minutes to one he is home, dog barks an alert.  He goes upstairs to his room and I drag myself up there because I have heard from other parents that you should always talk to you teens when they come home (so you can tell if they've had a drink, have red eyes).   I know he's a good kid (swimmers usually are -- forgot about Michael Phelps' lapse)  but I made myself go up and say good night.

And don't even get me started on Mr. Snore through anything.

Boy, am I with you. Summer at my house means I never fully fall asleep until everyone is home. The rule is they MUST come in a kiss me goodnight. So far, they have followed the rule. Even when my daughter is home from college she comes right over. My oldest son is ruining my sleep now. We have had a few nights of waltzing in the door at 4:30. Yes, he texts or calls periodically to let me know where he is but bottom line is he's still not home and I can't sleep. I think I'm going to have to institute a rule of two nights a week everyone is home by 11. I need my sleep!
