Early Voting

My under-the-counter tv in my kitchen broke so I am only catching snippets of the news lately.  I had hoped to have it replaced by now but as other bloggers have noted, what seems to be a simple project takes on huge proportions when delegated to a husband.

I think I heard that 30% of the voters in next weeks election will have already cast their votes before next Tuesday.  I find that amazing.  I know in our community the lines for early voters have been long and that you do have to sign a statement that you are going to be out of town on election day.  The people I know won't be out of town, just hoping to avoid the lines.  I'm having a hard time figuring out how the election board is going to have updated voter registration lists next Tuesday when they so many early voters.  At our polling place most of the workers are older and somewhat baffled by technology.  They do take their jobs seriously and always check my license against my signature.  I just don't understand how those voting by mail are subject to the same scrutiny.

And another thing, I have always voted in the primaries and municipal elections.  There was a very small turnout in our community for the last election.  I propose that those of us who do vote in these smaller elections get a 'butt to the front of the line' pass.  Just a thought!
